The aim of the Harrow Voices LGBTQ+ survey, was to gain an understanding of the experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ people in Harrow. This was the first time community research took place specifically for LGBTQ+ people in the borough.
 

Highlights

Over 100 LGBTQ+ people in Harrow responded.
Here are some highlights of what we now know:

  • LGBTQ+ awareness training is needed in healthcare settings
  • Too many have witnessed or been a victim of LGBTQ+ hate crime and/or discrimination in Harrow
  • Many told us they have a support system but too many felt lonely or isolated as an LGBTQ+ person in Harrow
  • There are not enough LGBTQ+ friendly spaces and events in Harrow
  • Many respondents would like to be connected with other LGBTQ+ people in the borough

‘Healthcare doesn’t recognise gay people.’

‘I don’t feel police would do anything about it.’

‘More LGBTQ events and activities in Harrow and more posters in coffee shops etc to show support. There could even be a letter sent out to all Harrow residents about educating them about LGBTQ and also zero tolerance for discrimination and hate crimes’.

'Transphobia is high in Harrow, and it is dangerous to be trans here. Increasing awareness of trans issues in Harrow is vitally important.’
